Senate housing bill -- more grief for homeowners

http://vote-socialist.org

Socialists across the nation are rejecting a U.S. Senate housing bill that offers little help to struggling homeowners facing foreclosure, while providing tens of billions for banks, financial institutions and big corporations. The bill (Foreclosure Prevention Act) passed in the Senate this past week by a vote of 84-12 and has been sent to the House. The vote was clearly a major setback for millions of homeowners and a big win for banks and big businesses.

MOBILIZE TO SUPPORT AMERICAN AXLE WORKERS -- SPUSA Labor Commission Statement

http://socialistparty-usa.org

The Socialist Party USA stands in solidarity with the American Axle workers as they carry out a strike in defense of their wages and benefits. The American Axle Corporation has attempted to reduce wages to $14/hour from $23/hour and cut retiree pension benefits. An almost 40% wage decrease is intolerable under any circumstances, but in a time of financial surplus -- when American Axle is able to pay a hefty dividend to its shareholders it is simply unconscionable. This episode is the most recent example of the overall offensive waged by corporations against manufacturing workers in America.

Socialists: Iraq War Still Number One Issue

http://vote-socialist.org

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates recently announced that he is supporting a pause in U.S. troop reduction in Iraq; it is a decision that is strongly opposed by socialists throughout the nation and a vast majority of the U.S. population. This Valentine’s Day Bring Justice to Flower Workers

http://laborrightsblog.typepad.com

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, but for cut flower workers around the world, the holiday is not so romantic. Around this time of year, cut flower workers are forced into long overtime and high quotas. But this Valentine's Day we can stand together in solidarity with cut flower workers by writing a letter to a Colombian businessman in the flower industry.

The disappointing truth is that behind most flowers bought in the U.S. there is a story of a flower worker in South America whose fundamental workers' rights were violated.
